Metropolitan Correctional Center, Clark & Van Buren
Those are prisoners in orange and white taunting whoever is looking at them. This is where they held the Unabomber after he was captured (his first bomb, at the University of Illinois, gave Chicago priority).

Daley deciding not to run for office. Somehow changing position to the top, my shelf of strange action figures that help ward off the beings in the ghost boat above my bed. Had lunch with Greg that day, here's two shots from the massive Big Pharma ad agency he works for. Those are escalators at the bottom. Rare to see an Arab begging for food. Quietly, at that. And then the full moon above the sign that tells me I'm on Fullerton Avenue.

23rd and Western, October 1982
The first shot is desolate, but you can see the second shot shows the same building. Cleaned up a bit once the new el line went through, but still not an area of hipsters. Mexican working class. The mjain building is Chicago PrintWorks, and in that parking lot, a girl named Quita McLean was killed while Dennis Cassady watched from the el platform. I wrote "Rapid Transit" for my final paper at UIC, its been reprinted seven times in four languages, even though it is a terrible story. C'mon, the first thing I wrote? But I finally got around to taking photos of my very first old haunt.
